Ironically, Another New Room

Well it looks like last time I posted I was posting photos of the place I was living... and now I'm doing it again! Here are some pictures of my room, my street, and Santa Monica: The beach is really wide! It took a long time to get from the street to the ocean...

It's hard to take good pictures of rooms... this makes it look really cramped but it's actually a pretty big room. There's also a nice kitchen, washing machine/dryer, bathroom, and a lemon tree in the backyard. : )

When Mum and Chris Came

I had a great time when Mom and Chris came up -- we had delicious dinners, went to an art museum, hiked, went to Vermont, etc... Here are some pictures from our time.

HOT HOT HOT

Well, here are my ambitions for the future:

1. I want to have a decent job that I enjoy.

2. I would like to marry a decent guy that I love.

3. I want air conditioning.

Maybe #3 should be #1. This week has been by far the hottest week of my life... my apartment, while nice, lets the heat in but doesn't let it back down -- it's boiling in here. I've been spending a lot of time in the library, as a result...yay, air conditioned library. : ) However, I have had the time to make peanut butter cookies, pumpkin pie cake, and pasta in my apartment kitchen -- as well as a variety of lunches... it's so nice to have places to put food, and food to put places.

The other thing about the heat is it's turning me into a night owl, because it's too hot to go to sleep until about 2 in the morning (really it's still too hot at 2, but it's a mild improvement...) Luckily it's easier to go without sleep in the summer than it is in the winter. Still, I wouldn't mind it if we have a week of weather in the low 70s...

These are some pictures from when I visited my friend Adrienne in Boston a few weekends ago. It was a ton of fun, but unfortunately it was the beginning of a long stretch of bad sleep, and now I've got a nasty cold. Oh well, hopefully I'll get over by the weekend when it's supposed to be nice outside again.

Also, because Chris was really busy in March, we never had a chance to go out to dinner for my birthday -- but Zan and Chris and I went out to dinner when he came up -- it was really nice : )

B-b-b-barabolya

Mom and I made pyrohy today! At first we were a little freaked out, because our dough was a bit too hard and our filling was a little too soft, and when we ate them right after we cooked them, they didn't taste all that great. But when we let them sit for a few hourse and added some buttery onions on top, they turned out really good! Not up to Baba level, but better than any others... You can see here a sample of our work. : )

This kind of reminds me of the old days of our Ukrainian tapes from Aunt Chris: "B-b-b-barabolya, sounds good to me, with a little smetana, that's sour cream, oh it's a dream with sour cream..." Just substitute pirohy for barabolya...
