B-b-b-barabolya

Mom and I made pyrohy today! At first we were a little freaked out, because our dough was a bit too hard and our filling was a little too soft, and when we ate them right after we cooked them, they didn't taste all that great. But when we let them sit for a few hourse and added some buttery onions on top, they turned out really good! Not up to Baba level, but better than any others... You can see here a sample of our work. : )

This kind of reminds me of the old days of our Ukrainian tapes from Aunt Chris: "B-b-b-barabolya, sounds good to me, with a little smetana, that's sour cream, oh it's a dream with sour cream..." Just substitute pirohy for barabolya...

Apples and Ancient Rome

Hello! Some pictures for you all, achieved at great cost because my computer was extremely reluctant to cooperate with me.

First we have the Coliseum snow sculpture on the Green -- which was in fact green at the time. They had to truck snow in to make and as you can see, it was already beginning to melt when I took the pictures.

Next, we have a lovely picture of an apple. We had one day last week that was so warm I decided to eat lunch outside. It was quite nice.

Then we have a picture of the sky -- hopefully the blue will transfer. This was right after I ate lunch -- it was a gorgeous, gorgeous day.

And finally a picture of me...it came out really dark so I edited it on the computer, which is why it's kind of fuzzy and oddly colored -- I just thought that every so often you guys might want to make sure I haven't dyed my hair green or gained 30 pounds or gotten a nose ring. : )

Happy March!
